As I pack up my nest in NNSW to return to my Gypsy Life

46 Years in the Fashion Industry has allowed me to accumulate many incredible things, I have come across a few this morning as they stared at me when I opened a bag in the space I have been based in, in Australia for the past 3 months.

The Plastic Hearts from Fioruuci where I worked as a store manager in the 1980’s in London, have been hanging on an Indian Wedding Chest I exchanged for working for a friend in the 1990’s, the bag is a Gypsy Weekender, the ones I was importing in the Teen’s and shipped all over the World. All the items in this bag created slowly so that when someone tells me were something is made I can confirm the origin and its manufacture.

My “Gypsy Weekender” completely different from the rest, as every single item I sell is, completely one of a kind and brimming with 40+ years of favourite, Belts, Scarves, Purses & Bags and items thankfully I didn’t loose in the flood of 28.2.22.

Chosen by this Gypsy, who has worked as a Designer, Sourcer and Buyer for all this time. The knowledge and experience cannot be bought or copied which is easy to say, when you know where almost everything is from in this word of plagiarism and aspiration.

My influences have been the past always, and you may have heard if you have followed me for a long time, “The Women who were a generation older than I” in the 70’s floating around in their “Mexican Wedding Dresses” It would be 2 decades before I could travel to purchase my first and immediately bring back as many as I could for my clients and friends 26 years ago now!!

As I folded the items back into the Bag and scanned the Studio for more things to save here, I have been reminded about all the individuals that have crossed my path whilst I’ve been in Australia, the beautiful encounters life has offered this individual constantly on the move, friends who have made time in their busy calendars to host me, or just have a cuppa and allow this chameleon to shine.

I’ll pack those incredible New York Earrings into this bag alongside my own Katie Van, they as you said, were made for me! Our days laden with giggles and the most divine food, views, flowers and ponies of course!!

My Mother taught me to say “Until we meet again” not “Goodbye” I’d say it has something to do with being a War Baby and it fits my lifestyle so well, as my friends and family always welcome me with open arms and the excitement of how much fun we will have together as we renew our friendships, just where we left off when ever I’m in the same Country, Town, Planet as they!!

And again I say to you my dear friends and clients, who totally comprehend what I source and sell, thank you, thank you for your encouragement and support, we walk the same paths together and your purchases allow me to continue to support those who have the talent to make such incredible items slowly in this ever-changing planet we call home.
